How One Family Opened the Doors to Reading in Buxar

In Buxar, Bihar, a simple yet powerful idea took shape — to create a free, inclusive library where every child could experience the joy of reading. Driven by this vision, Priyanka Keshari and her family of six came together to build a space that is open to all, free of cost, and accessible regardless of caste, creed, gender, or background.
In a town where many children come from under-resourced communities with little to no access to quality books, this initiative set out to bridge a critical gap. The family envisioned not just a library, but a safe and welcoming environment where children could spend time meaningfully — reading, imagining, and learning together.
With the support of donors through Donate-a-Book, the library is now stocked with approximately 200 joyful, age-appropriate storybooks. Carefully curated, these books serve as an entry point for children at different reading levels, helping them build language skills and confidence at their own pace.
The space is already coming alive with regular read-aloud sessions, where stories are shared collectively, and peer storytelling activities that encourage children to express themselves. These interactions are helping transform reading from an individual activity into a shared, joyful experience.
More than just access to books, this library is nurturing imagination, curiosity, and creativity among children. It is becoming a community space where young readers can gather, learn, and grow together.
This initiative stands as a powerful reminder that meaningful change often begins with small, committed efforts. By creating access to books and a space to engage with them, this library is laying the foundation for lifelong reading habits and opening up new possibilities for children in Buxar.
