Who we are
Karkamb is a village in Solapur district, Maharashtra. The Zilla Parishad school in Karkamb has students who belong to economically underprivileged families. Our aim is to use the power of storytelling to provide them with a quality education.
Our work and its impact
We are working on improving foundational literacy and numeracy skills in the students. Over the past two years, we have focused on Maths and Marathi, the first language. Now our focus is on improving their reading and writing skills in English to boost their self-confidence.
How we will utilise these books
With the funds from this campaign we will get English storybooks from Pratham Books for the students to practise their reading and comprehension skills. Pratham Books’ storybooks are easy to read and are categorised according to reading levels and not age. This encourages the children to get comfortable with reading, no matter which grade they are in. We will set a goal of reading for two hours every week and help them inculcate the habit of reading.
