Who we are
Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital is a 550-bed pediatric hospital in Mumbai. Children from all over India come here to seek treatment. Many suffer from serious and chronic health conditions and spend long periods in hospital, undergoing painful and prolonged treatment. Most of the children belong to families that face terrible financial constraints and are unable to afford even medicine or basic items of clothing. The pandemic has made matters worse, as many parents have lost their livelihoods and sold everything they possess in order to seek treatment for their children.
Our work and its impact
The Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital treats children with a wide spectrum of disorders while trying to keep their spirits high. The attempt is to provide loving care and support in different ways.
How we will utilise these books
The Hospital has found that stories have ushered a lot of happiness into the wards. Books have brought cheer and diversion to children undergoing painful medical treatment and kept them strong and resolute. The hospital gets children up to the age of 17. The children usually speak and read Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Bengali, Telugu, and Kannada. The children in the 10 to 14 years age group have been asking to read funny books that can make them laugh. The Palliative and Supportive Care Unit hopes to distribute these books within the various wards and departments in the hospital and bring some color and joy into the lives of the little patients.
