Who we are
The Anantapur Sports Academy (ASA) operates sports centre programs within the rural villages of the Anantapur District to use sport as a tool to develop the lives of over 600 children. Here, coaches and teachers at the centres deliver practical and computer classes, as well as life skills workshops to enhance education. We wish to further life skill development at two of our centres, promoting education and literacy by building libraries that will be accessible to over 400 children. Please help us to give these children the opportunities they deserve to develop their lives.
Our work and its impact
Anantapur Sports Academy (ASA) is an award-winning Sport for Development Program initiated by Rayalaseema Development Trust (RDT), an NGO based out of Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. ASA is continuously making efforts towards making ‘Anantapur’ a sporting district by promoting sport as well as recognizing it as a tool for the holistic development of the children and youth coming from underprivileged sections. Since 2000, ASA is committed to provide equipment, infrastructure and coaching support to bring out hidden sporting abilities of rural children and youth in different sporting disciplines. Apart from promoting sports amongst the underprivileged children and youth of Anantapur, the program is also contributing towards their socio-educational development.
How we will utilise these books
ASA, through its three tier pyramid model, strives to ensure that children and youth enjoy their "Right To Play". Annually, the initiative encourages over 9,000 girls and boys from the district of Anantapur to participate in sport and enjoy its benefits. Emphasis is primarily to promote sport and increase the participation in sport, particularly of girls in the base of the pyramid termed as Grassroot and Development centres. Through sports participation, ASA works to develop physical skills, as well as social, psychological skills and education to enhance the holistic development of children. ASA also aids children in education and nutrition through its programmes. The funds raised from this campaign will be used to develop libraries at the ASA Development Centres in the rural villages around Anantapur, which will be available to over 400 children to use Monday-Saturday, before and after school. These libraries will be another opportunity for children to grow and develop, furthering their literacy skills and creating a space where children can be creative. These books will also support children in their efforts to develop their Basic English Language skills.
