Who we are
In the last one year that I have spent teaching with Teach For India at the Govindarajanagar Government School, my class of 30 students have gone from not identifying English alphabet to now being able to read upto level Z during the last assessment (Reading level A-Z assessment format). After introducing them to the joy of reading, it is only fair that we make more books available at their disposal. So, we require books for our classroom library, to ensure that the learning process we have started here never stops.
Our work and its impact
I am a software professional who turned teacher by choice and wants to bring excellent education in classrooms where it is needed the most. Hence I applied to the Teach for India fellowship and work with the Govindarajanagar Government School teaching a happy bunch of 3rd grade students,
How we will utilise these books
After spending the first year of the Teach For India fellowship in a government school teaching children how to read, I now wish to take it one step further by providing them with a classroom library. These books will be their key to a whole new world of learning and imagination. Most children in my classroom are first generation learners and their education is their hope to beat poverty. The funds raised through this campaign will all be used towards setting up a classroom library. This library will currently impact the 100 students who are learning English as first generation learners in 3rd,4th and 5th grades and so many more in the future.
