Who we are
Christel House India Learning centers offers impoverished children completely free of cost rigorous academic education, which stresses competency in English, computers and basic skills, while instilling the universal values of Respect, Responsibility, Independence and Integrity. Regular meals, physical and psychological health and wellness programs, life skills training, enrichment activities and service learning opportunities complement the educational program. Internships, job placement and scholarship opportunities facilitate workplace integration.
Our work and its impact
The Christel House Learning Centre in Bangalore was opened in 2001 and moved to the new campus on the North side of the city in June 2004. The facilities at the school include a well-equipped junior & senior computer lab, library, music room, audio visual room, art room, science labs, language lab, resource room, medical room, open air auditorium, dining hall, shower rooms, playground and a basketball court.
How we will utilise these books
The Christel House India - Bangalore school population currently numbers nearly 900 children in Grades KG to XII. All the children who come to Christel House are from slums, shelters and low-income neighborhoods. Christel House largely caters to the slum population, which is migrant population, settled in the city for more than 5-10 years. We ensure that the total monthly income of the community admitted to Christel House is below Rs. 7,500/- per month with an average of 5 members in the family (per capita is Rs. 1,500/- per month). Christel House is secular in nature. We are committed to ensure a high success rate of these children breaking their cycle of poverty and attaining self-sufficiency. By giving these children the gift of education we will be creating a lasting systemic change. These funds would come a long way and would be utilized towards good library books that will impart lasting knowledge to the children of Christle House India.
