Who we are
In many government schools, children have almost no access to storybooks beyond their textbooks. Libraries are often absent, leaving them without the joy of reading. To bridge this gap, Thoughts to Action began by setting up a small library of 1,000 books from our own savings, with the aim of bringing joyful reading to children.
The joy and eagerness with which the children embraced the books made it clear to us how much they value stories and how powerfully reading can spark their imagination. However, the demand for books far outweighs what we were able to provide through a single small library. To truly meet this need, our vision is to bring portable library that can travel to schools and communities ensuring that children, regardless of where they live, have consistent and meaningful access to storybooks.
Our work and its impact
Our work focuses on helping children in government schools and community spaces grow both emotionally and intellectually. We use art, storytelling, and nature-based learning to build curiosity, creativity, social-emotional skills, and ecological awareness in children.
One of our key efforts is establishing libraries and reading spaces for children who otherwise have no access to books beyond their school textbooks. These spaces encourage imagination, self-expression, and the joy of reading. We also conduct storytelling sessions, art workshops, and activities that help children connect with each other and with the world around them.
The impact of our initiative is two fold. For children, they gain confidence, empathy, imagination, and critical thinking skills that prepare them for life, not just exams. For communities, they begin to value creativity, emotional well-being, and the importance of nurturing young minds. In short, our work builds spaces where children can read, learn, express, and dream freely—slowly shaping a society that is kinder, more thoughtful, and better prepared for the future.
How we will utilise these books
The storybooks sourced through this fundraiser will be used to set up portable libraries in government schools and community spaces where children currently have very limited or no access to storybooks. These libraries will serve as active reading spaces.
Through these libraries, children will be able to:
-
-Borrow books to enjoy both at home and in school.
-Participate in regular storytelling sessions during school hours and on weekends.
-Use stories as inspiration for art, craft, and creative writing activities.
-Learn important values of sharing, caring, and responsibility by collectively managing the library.
