My name is Pratheeksha Shishila and I’m a Teach For India alumna. I teach English to 250 students in a Government Residential School in Karnataka. My students come from low-economic backgrounds and have never had an English teacher before I was appointed. Most of the students are unable to read at the appropriate grade levels and it is disheartening to think that they do not experience simple pleasures like reading a good piece of English literature.

World Book Day is celebrated on 23rd April every year to raise awareness about the benefits of reading. To celebrate this special day, I am raising funds to gift my students storybooks from Pratham Books that are for readers of all levels.

I hope that these books will help my students unlock a lifelong love for reading and grow up to become voracious readers.
