Who we are
#AkalyaMissClassroom is a land of possibilities for myself and my 32 little humans. We collectively believe that anything is possible and that the limitation to learning lies only inside our head. We share with each other the stories that are ours, the stories that we've heard from others. While we also make up our own stories about dragons, spaceships, dinosaurs, unicorns and aliens on a daily basis, we would love to read other storybooks. Our work and its impact
I'm Akalya Karunanidhi, a 2019 Teach for India Fellow. I teach third grade in a corporation primary school in a low-income community in North Chennai.
How we will utilise these books
I'm trying to bridge the grade level gap when it comes to literacy and leverage the joy of reading among my kids and provide them the exposure through books. The books are to set up a classroom library. Once the kids move up on their reading levels, these books will be passed onto the next batch of students as per their grade/reading levels.
