Who we are
We are a group of 6 Teach for India(TFI) fellows who work at a low-income private school. We strongly believe that poverty should not determine destiny. Prior to joining TFI we were either graduating from college or heading home from work. And now here we are amongst 300 kids who teach us everyday that life is not fair, but well thought choices can make a difference. Our story begins with us making a choice, and we want our students to learn how to make theirs.
Our work and its impact
We are a group of fellows who come from diverse academic and professional background. All of us are enrolled in a 2 year fellowship program at Teach for India. 3 of us will be finishing fellowship by April 2016 and the rest a year later. TFI has a vision of making sure that one day all children have excellent education, we are here adding our drop to this herculean task. Are we making a change? Yes, we are! Can you help? Sure, you can!
How we will utilise these books
We take teaching to a level beyond plain instruction. Activity based learning and student driven classes are some of our key focus techniques. Be it academics, sports or even a chat with parents, we encourage kids to question and explore things before making a decision. We have had several generations in the past question the education system in our country. Either viewing it as how ineffective it was, or how uninspiring it left them. Our work and impact therefore focuses on serving as, hopefully, role models who give them a "WHY" of education. These funds will be utilized in procuring quality books for children from grade 1 to 10, for 350 students. The classrooms are already equipped with storage space but lack books, games or puzzles. We want the students to go well-beyond textbooks and curriculum based studies. Hence, would spend these funds to buy right mix of books and games.
