Who we are
‘THE – SARA’ is a Jammu & Kashmir-based registered non-profit organisation working on humanitarian issues like suicide prevention, mental health support, crisis support, and health and education. Our efforts have been recognised by various organisations and institutions.
We were nominated for the ‘Times of India Social Impact Award’ in 2012 and awarded an Appreciation Certificate by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu Range for our outstanding role and contribution towards suicide prevention. We have also been recognised for our role in the Flood Relief and Rehabilitation work in 2014 and awarded a Commendation Letter by the Head of Jammu & Kashmir State Disaster Response Force (SRDF). In 2018, we received the Commendation Medal & Certificate from the Director-General of Police, Jammu & Kashmir Sh. Dilbag Singh.
Our work and its impact
Under the Mission Compassion project, our ‘Share with Schools’ initiative provides notebooks, school bags, library kits, and stationery items to students in government schools. We also support students in need, who are adversely impacted by tensions along the border between India and Pakistan.
How we will utilise these books
After crowdfunding for a library in a government primary school located near the Indo-Pak Line of Control (LoC), they are raising funds to get delightful storybooks for children studying in the Government Middle School Abdullah Basti in Samba district in Jammu & Kashmir. It is a makeshift school where underprivileged children from tribal communities uprooted from Indo-Pak border study. The multilingual storybooks from Pratham Books will help the children discover the joy of reading.
