Who we are
We are class of 62 eleven years old studying in a Government school in Pune. We are designing and constructing, with help of an Architect and an Interior designer, a Library for our school which will serve around 550 kids from Grade 1-7. We require books for the library for we wish to explore, understand the world and develop a love for reading, Help us become leaders as they say "Not all leaders are readers, but all leaders are reader".
Our work and its impact
I am Vrushali Joshi, a psychologist cum teacher cum friend cum facilitator for the 62 kids that I am working with in my fellowship with Teach For India. I, with my co-fellow Sonal Sethia (PhD) are planning to engage our kids in designing, constructing and maintaining a Library for their school. We need books for the same Library project.
How we will utilise these books
Teach For India places fellows in different lower income schools, where in fellows teach the same class for two years. Here fellows try to bridge the huge reading / conceptual gapes that are there in the students from the lower income schools. We believe books could work as catalyst in this process. Our vision for our kids is to help them become THOUGHTFUL READERS who critically engage with texts from all genres. We are planning to start a library in school which will impact around 550 kids. The funds raised by this campaign will be used to get books of different reading levels/genres to suit students need of our school.
