Who we are
This is for 500 students from low income communities in Ahmedabad. The idea is to give each child atleast two new books to read. They can exchange in within their class and get access to more as well. The point is to increase access to books.
Our work and its impact
I studied in a really good school which had a really good library. I had parents who did not think twice if I asked for a book to read. I had access to the internet, the newspaper and all kinds of books. This is not true for a lot of children in our country. I taught 90 of them for two years and now I work with teachers who teach 500 students from low income communities. I am their coach and their manager. I want to provide all of them with 100 books each and I want to make sure that I do something (however small) to improve access to good books for children in these schools. :)
How we will utilise these books
I work for Teach for India. The organisation's vision is that 'One day all children will attain an excellent education.' and to do this, we train teachers to teach in low income communities. We aim to involve people into the education field and be leaders who bring about change in different aspects of the education sector. We have been operational for over 7 years now and a lot of our alumni are working in different parts of the country in different fields. All the money will be used to buy books for the 500 students. Every child will get 2 story books. :)
