From curious learners of class IV-“ All you wonderful people know how a book can change one’s life. We like living and want to make our lives better. Money that you would donate here would get us books based on fantasy, science, travel, mathematics, places, food, world and many more. We might never have money to experience all of it but through books we will surely live these experiences. It will help us to become a better person and do our bit for society. Please help us weave some more new dreams.”
Our work and its impact
I am an Engineer by profession. I worked for two years in an renounced IT firm. However I always felt the need to do something purposeful for the society. Our country is facing a lot of problems. Education is the sole driver to steer us out of these challenging times. Our population, which Is often considered a challenge can be our true resource, for this we need to provide excellent education to every child.
How we will utilise these books
I am teaching a bunch of 40 kids in a government school in Seelampur, East Delhi. These kids are far behind the grade they are in. They would never stand a chance in front of students from good private schools. Why such Inequality? Just because these kids don’t have enough money, don’t they deserve an excellent education? I work day and night to provide them exposure, knowledge and empowerment they need to become the best of themselves. Fund would be used to set up a class library. Funds would go to Pratham’s account and they would send us only books(no money) of equivalent amount. These books would be of different reading comprehension level so that kids of all reading comprehension levels(0-4) would be able to indulge in books. Books will be issued on weekly basis. They would read one book in a week. This will improve their knowledge, Reading fluency, comprehension and most important interest in reading.
