Who we are
Sai Educational Rural & Urban Development Society (SERUDS) is a Kurnool-based registered charitable nonprofit organisation in Andhra Pradesh. Our goal is to develop an enriching library for the underprivileged children living in our SERUDS Children's Home. As a registered Child Care Institution (CCI) under Sections 41 (1) and 50 (1) of the Juvenile Justice Act (CPC) 2015, we have been offering a safe haven for orphaned and needy children since January 2012. Our facilities comprise separate orphanages for boys and girls, currently home to 25 girls and 35 boys, all housed within a three-story structure.
The children under our care are a mix of orphans, street children who have been rescued by volunteers, and kids from economically disadvantaged families or single-parent homes that can't provide quality education or food. All these children are enrolled in the Indira Gandhi Memorial Municipal Corporation High School, where education is imparted through the English medium.
Our work and its impact
SERUDS projects are focused on disadvantaged children (orphanage, sponsoring education, street children), elders (Joy Old Age Home, sponsoring cooked meals and groceries), and Women (livelihood training).
Here are a few of our achievements:
- -Conducted national seminar on Right to education act with 125 participants and recommended measures for its effective implementation.
- -Running 12 creche centres (day care) with 360 kids in slum areas.
- -Provided educational material to 250 disabled students.
- -Support for shelter, nutritious food and educational material to 25 orphans, semi orphans and street children.
- -1890 farmers, agriculture labour, women, children, youth were sensitised on effects of climate change.
How we will utilise these books
The funds raised through this crowdfunding campaign will be used to provide books from Pratham Books in English & Telugu. These books will help our children expand their knowledge and worldviews beyond the confines of their school curriculum in their mother tongue. The library will feature a range of non-fiction books, spanning topics like history, climate change, science, technology, engineering, and maths. These books will be specifically tailored for children aged between 6 and 18.
