Who we are
Solapur Social Foundation is a nonprofit organisation established in 2018. We conduct various programmes in the fields of education, skill development, women’s empowerment and environmental protection in Solapur, Maharashtra. We provide free tutoring classes, guidance workshops for competitive exams, and book banks for students of all grades to inculcate a regular reading habit. Our programmes are most useful for children, women, unemployed youth, farmers, etc. Many students have directly benefited from our programmes like the Advanced Student Free Teaching Classes and the Book Bank. Introduction to entrepreneurship camps conducted for women has given them the potential to become independent. We also organise skill development and vocational guidance classes for educated unemployed youth and planned reforestation activities to plant 50,000 trees in Solapur between 2019 and 2020.
Our work and its impact
In 2021 we collaborated with Pratham InfoTech Foundation to reach out to 3000+ students and teachers as part of a digital learning and soft skills course. The multilingual children’s storybooks we received from Pratham Education Foundation in 2019-20 were distributed among various schools and were received with a lot of excitement and joy. To amplify this positive impact we have raised a crowdfunding campaign on Donate-a-Book to get many more storybooks and reach even more children.
How we will utilise these books
The funds raised from this campaign will be used to procure Pratham Books’ storybooks for 2500+ children in Solapur. We want to encourage the children to spend more time reading storybooks than on their mobile phones. The storybooks explore various themes like Science, Maths, History and Technology, etc in mother tongue languages and in a colourful, engaging manner. Reading these storybooks regularly will increase their knowledge and improve their academics.
