We are raising these funds for

I am Shubhankar Naryal. I’m currently working as a Teach For India Fellow in Lilanagar Public School located in the Khodiarnagar area of Ahmedabad. It is an English medium government school which caters to the needs of approximately 250 students.

The students here have a high zeal to explore new books and knowledge. They love reading novels and books about social sciences that keep them updated about the world.
However, their low-income backgrounds restrict their exposure to a variety of books. Their only source of knowledge is a small classroom library which was set up when Akanksha and I came to the school and now needs to be updated.

Akanksha was my co-fellow in the same school, working to create an impact in the education sector and the community. She was an ambitious lawyer from Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh. ‘Don’t step on the mat, my students sit there’, ‘Let’s meet the principal and talk about our students’, ‘I trust my students more than myself’, ‘म्हारी छोरियां छोरों से कम हैं के’ (‘Are my girls any lesser than boys?’) are some of her famous dialogues.

She introduced students to the fascinating world of storybooks when they returned to school after two years of school closures. She was compassionate, optimistic and believed in spreading happiness. Even during her tough times, she brought the same joy and energy to the classroom. Akanksha was an ambitious lawyer from Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh. ‘Don’t step on the mat, my students sit there’, ‘Let’s meet the principal and talk about our students’, ‘I trust my students more than myself’, ‘म्हारी छोरियां छोरों से कम हैं के’ (Are my girls any lesser than boys?) are some of her famous dialogues.

I was happy to have Akanksha as my co-fellow as we wanted to explore so many possibilities for the children together. We lost Akanksha in a road accident on New Year’s Eve.

Akanksha and I always wanted to see our students explore the world of endless knowledge. So, here I am welcoming you to be a part of our dream and help me bring joy and happiness in their lives like Akanksha Didi used to in the form of these books. The funds from this campaign will be used to make Akanksha Didi’s dream come true and set up a school library in her memory.
