Who we are
We work with children, who belong to Marginalized Community from Khed and Maval Blocks in Pune district. They are the first learners and more vulnerable because of their parents who are also vulnerable. These children do not get good books to read except school books which are maximum time not relevant to their culture which results in their getting dropped out of the school.
Our work and its impact
I am Prabha Vilas, Founder of Work for Equality Organization (WE). I belong to marginalized community where education is not given much importance. I showed my willingness and after lot of struggle I completed my education. I saw the difference between an educated person in our community, who gets lot of opportunities through which he can easily mingle with mainstream society. I decided to spread awareness among marginalized community on the importance of Education and established Work for Equality Organization which is also a registered NGO.
How we will utilise these books
We work for the educational development of Marginalized Children in Khed and Maval Blocks, through running eleven community based centers which are associated with eight Zilla Parishad Schools. Before school time we run two hours study classes, where we help children to increase their basic reading and writing skills. We also take care of the Health, Nutrition and Life Skills of the children. We work with parents and community to increase awareness about child rights. We also have Adolescent groups in the community with whom we work to create the next generation who can spread the same awareness that we are working. Along with this, we run Residential Home for Street Girls who stay on the streets of Pune City. We work for their holistic development including Safe Residence, Nutrition, Health and Life Skills. Through both the programs we are making an impactful change in the life more than 1000 children and 2000 parents. We would like to utilize this funds to purchase books for the children and start reading session and classroom library for the children with in the 11 communities and 8 Zilla Parishad schools. These libraries will be monitored and managed by our community leaders who are our NGO staffs. We will keep separate time for the children in our study class for reading also we will support the entire school and community children for the proper utilization of books.
