Who we are

The Prayog Shikshan Sanstha has been working tirelessly over the past two years to bring the joy of stories to children in rural areas. Through our Vachan Katta (Reading Club) initiative, we have provided books to nearly 100 children, encouraging a love for reading and helping them discover the magic of stories.

We now aim to expand this initiative to reach more children.

Our work and its impact

Currently, our work is focused on children. We are working in a rural area where all the children attend government schools. These children do not have access to any reading materials apart from their textbooks. The parents of these children come from a very low economic background, which makes it difficult for them to buy storybooks for their children.

We have observed significant positive changes in the children after we started telling them stories and allowing them to take books home for reading. Initially, the children were very hesitant to speak, but as they began reading storybooks, their confidence grew, and they started narrating stories themselves. They also began discussing the books they read.

Not only the children but even their parents started reading the books that were sent home. The parents also began sharing their feedback about the books.

How we will utilise these books

Pratham Books has been a vital partner in our journey, providing us with the books that enabled us to run the Vachan Katta initiative successfully. With more books, we can organize diverse activities to enhance the children's reading experience, including:
--Creating book covers and sequencing stories.
--Solving word puzzles and participating in book discussions.
--Writing book reviews, creating new stories, and documenting their experiences inspired by the books.
