Who we are
Our mobile library was set up six years ago for five government schools in Wakhari, Jor Gav, Wathar Nimbalkar, Sherewadi, and Golewadi in Maharashtra. Every week we visit the school with storybooks and activities for the children.
In the village of Pirachiwadi, we set up the Katta library and every Sunday from 8 to 10 AM we narrate stories under a banyan tree for the children. The children wait eagerly every week and the good response encouraged us to set up an experimental education institute and registered it as Prayog Shiksan Sanstha.
Our work and its impact
The weekly visits to the schools and the storytelling sessions are helping the children develop a sense of self confidence. Through the various activities, children are falling in love with reading and choosing favourite characters. They have even started taking the books home with them.
How we will utilise these books
The funds from our campaign will help us get Marathi storybooks from Pratham Books for our institution and mobile libraries for two new villages. We will introduce the children in these villages to the joy of reading and teach them the value of storybooks. The books will help us connect with the children and the activities will help them improve their reading, creative writing as well as communication and drawing skills.
