Who we are
One Day, One Story is Pratham Books’ annual flagship storytelling campaign celebrating International Literacy Day on September 8th. Every year, thousands of Reading Champions conduct storytelling sessions with children across India, encouraging children to fall in love with reading. One Day, One Story is a volunteer-led campaign that has shared the joy of reading with hundreds of thousands of children across India and the world.
Our work and its impact
Pratham Books is a nonprofit children’s book publisher established in 2004 with a mission to put ‘a book in every child's hand’. We publish high quality, affordable storybooks in multiple Indian languages to share the joy of reading with children. Pratham Books has published over 7000 storybooks in 24 Indian languages, with a readership of over 50 million children.
How we will utilise these books
At Pratham Books, we believe that every child has the right to enjoy good books. And we believe they should have stories set in surroundings familiar to them and in a language close to their culture. We believe that to make books accessible to every child, they should be affordable. As a not-for-profit publisher, our dream is to see a country where every child wants to read, is able to read, and has something good to read. From publishing good quality and highly contextualised stories to be read and enjoyed by children, we consistently reach out to children through our various partner organisations.
One Day, One Story has grown over the past decade, with 6,000 Reading Champions across India. The funds raised through this campaign will go towards giving print storybooks to individuals, schools and organizations who want to participate in this nation-wide campaign that celebrates the joy of stories, reading and languages.
