Who we are
The project for which we are raising funds is working for the children with child centered and community based approach. A child is taken care of even before his/her birth under different life stages like infancy, childhood, adolescent and youth. This project works on inclusive development of a child and ensures all round development. We need books in our library for 780 children of our project area who are deprived, vulnerable and marginalized.
Our work and its impact
Gram Chetna Kendra, which translates to Village Awareness Center, was formed in 1986 by a group of socially conscious individuals under the leadership of Mr. Om Prakash Sharma. Recognizing the immense needs of Rajasthan's rural poor, this group decided to combine their unique knowledge, talents, skills and experience to address the pressing issues facing individuals. Therefore, in 1989, the organization was registered as a voluntary, non-governmental organization under the Societies Registration Act and began formal operations from their campus, which is located in the heart of the project area in the village of Khedi Milak. This area is located 55km from the state capital, Jaipur, in Sambhar Block of Jaipur District. Before, GCK began working in the area; it had remained virtually untouched by mainstream development efforts, from both national and international sources.
How we will utilise these books
GCK’s mission is to bring awareness among rural populace through democratic means so as to empower them and help them in gaining control over all factors that affect their individual life and community at large. The reading awareness program of GCK tries to inculcate the habits of studying among deprived, vulnerable and marginalized children of the rural area of Jaipur ( 20 villages of Sambhar Block, Post Khedi Milak ). Till date GCK has covered deprived children from even remotest locations of the project area. GCK aims to utilize the fund for CRC (Child Resource Centres) which it is running for children of the project area and for the office library as well which acts as one stop solution for the children coming to the GCK. Apart from this the funds will be used to provide needed books to the needy children so that they are not denied learning at any cost and at any point. Accessible books to all vulnerable, deprived and marginalized children of the project area of GCK. Apart from this GCK wishes to support government schools in providing access to books to the children in need. Contacts and coordination will be done with all the government schools of our project area for facilitating books to the children of those schools and ensuring its access by them.
