Who we are
One Billion Literates Foundation was established with the belief that education is a fundamental human right. We work to ensure that lack of access to resources and infrastructure does not prevent children and women from pursuing their dreams. We help women and children from rural communities in Bangalore make informed decisions and lead productive lives by providing them with education and life skills.
Our work and its impact
We design and initiate various intervention programmes for children like Elevate - our flagship programme to improve literacy in English among government primary school children in Bangalore; CTRL ALT LEARN introduces children to computers with easy-to-use software and applications; and Kickstart empowers women by equipping them with pedagogical, professional and health and hygiene-related knowledge; and many more learning and skill-based programmes.
How we will utilise these books
We built a community learning centre for a migrant waste picker community whose children have little to no access to education. The funds raised from our crowdfunding campaign will be used to introduce children aged 3 to 10 years to the magical world of storybooks. We will use the books to teach them to read, write, and improve their linguistic and communication skills. Learning to read in mother tongue languages and English will help them achieve foundational literacy and equip them with the skills to excel in their academics.
