Multilingual storybooks for kids from the Nyishi tribe in Arunachal Pradesh
1Days to go
Who we are
‘Government Primary School’ is a small school located in Hoj village in remote Arunachal Pradesh. Most of the students belong to the Nyishi tribe and are first-generation learners. They need access to resources that expose them to the world beyond their school and storybooks are the best way to help them explore and discover new ideas. But high-quality books are largely inaccessible and expensive for the students’ families.
I am a volunteer for the school supporting this fundraising as I, too, came from the same tribe and grew up in the same place. I want the children studying in this school to access the same opportunities I was given.
Our work and its impact
As a Project Manager with Central Square Foundation, I am now working towards reforming the education system. CSF is an organisation that works towards providing quality education for all children in India. I volunteer with government schools during the weekends to improve their libraries and get high quality storybooks for the students. This is my third crowdfunding campaign with Donate-a-Book. I previously raised funds for my Teach for India classroom in Mumbai and a school in Arunachal Pradesh earlier this year.
How we will utilise these books
The school has no library due to a lack of storybooks and infrastructure. The funds from my campaign will be used to get storybooks for a school library. The Library-in-a-Classroom from Pratham Books will make it simple to set up classroom libraries so every child can discover the joy of reading. The books will also be valuable sources of teaching material that teachers can use to make the lessons engaging. As someone who is also from the Nyishi tribe, I want the kids to be able to access educational resources that I was able to get.
