Who we are
MitSna Foundation is a youth-led Section 8 non-profit organisation based in Imphal, Manipur, working to advance quality education and build a reading culture. The team comprises young professionals, graduates, and undergraduates from institutions across India and abroad, all committed to creating meaningful educational change.
For almost a decade, MitSna Foundation has run multiple programmes spanning free academic resources, community talks, career guidance, science outreach, art and cultural exchange for children, and direct educational support for internally displaced children in relief camps. The organisation’s work is wide-ranging, community-driven, and built entirely on the belief that social and financial conditions should not constrain access to knowledge.
At the centre of our work sits the Lairik-kol: MitSna Public Library in Imphal, an inclusive community space. While the library holds a growing collection of about 1000 books, it currently has a limited number of children’s books. In a state with fewer than five functioning public libraries serving a population of over three million, building a dedicated children’s literature section is long overdue.
Our work and its impact
MitSna runs educational programmes across multiple fronts in Manipur. Using the internet, the organisation has built a free online platform offering complete Class X study materials in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, accessible to students through MitSna’s YouTube channel. MitSna’s Massive Open Talks and MitSna Interactive Talks series have brought together over 700 young people in conversations with academics, civil servants, activists, sportspersons, and entrepreneurs.
MitSna’s initiatives—Science Corner, Movie Corner, MitSna Hawks Football Club, and Book Corner—promote science communication, develop critical thinking through films, uplift health and overall well-being, and encourage the growth of a reading community.
Through Project C3, in collaboration with Unibrow Studio, MitSna has worked with children from underserved districts and facilitated art and cultural exchange. Through Back-to-School, as part of its Rebuild Manipur initiative, the organisation has directly supported displaced students from Classes 8 to 12 with academic resources and mentorship. Across all these efforts, establishing a dedicated children’s book collection remains an urgent need to nurture a reading culture from an early age.
How we will utilise these books
Every storybook donated through this fundraiser will go directly towards building the long-overdue children’s literature section, transforming the Lairik-kol: MitSna Public Library into a safe and vibrant space where young children can walk in and immerse themselves in the literary world.
Books will be organised according to children’s reading levels. The organisation will conduct regular children’s reading sessions, with volunteers facilitating guided reading and storytelling. In addition, Phungga Wari sessions will revive the age-old Meitei tradition of “fireplace stories.” Volunteers will use the storybooks from Pratham Books to bridge the gap between traditional oral storytelling and modern literature, helping children aged 3–10 discover the joy of reading printed words.
Through our Back-to-School project, books will also reach children living in relief camps who are unable to access the library in person. Reading sessions will be conducted in relief camps, ensuring displaced children have access to literature and storytelling.
Every donated book will be catalogued, carefully maintained, and actively read.
