Who we are
Meridian Public School is an unaided private school established during the COVID-19 pandemic. We began with 15 children, and today we have over 80 students, most of whom come from lower-middle-class backgrounds and are first-generation learners.
Our students receive little to no educational support from their families, and I aim to help them become better readers through access to books from Pratham Books.
Our work and its impact
As the principal of Meridian Public School, I encourage students to read through storytelling and regular interactions. I have introduced the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the school curriculum to raise awareness among students. Additionally, I work to improve their English-speaking skills, helping them understand the critical role of education in shaping their future and fostering independence.
How we will utilise these books
We plan to incorporate the books into classroom activities, allocating regular reading time for the children.
We are also planning to introduce a program called "Book in a Bag," which will encourage students to take books home, expanding their reading opportunities.
Once we receive the books, we will evaluate the success of the program.
