Who we are

Malviya Child Welfare Foundation is a voluntary group of purpose-driven youth committed to uplifting vulnerable children in some of the most deprived urban and rural areas through education support and mentorship. In Varanasi, we run a free library and learning space for over 200 children from underprivileged backgrounds.

For the past 10 years, we have provided books, tutoring, mentorship, workshops, and digital access—nurturing not only literacy, but also confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of community.

In October 2025, record-breaking rains submerged large parts of Varanasi, including our library. Within hours, everything was underwater: more than 300 kg of books were waterlogged and destroyed; computers and projectors were damaged; educational materials such as charts, art supplies, and science kits were ruined; and months of children’s creativity in the form of artwork and posters were washed away. Although we have cleaned, repainted, and reopened our space, our shelves remain half-empty and our resources are critically depleted. Our children are eager to learn, but they are doing so with gaps we cannot fill alone.

Our work and its impact

We provide holistic education and empowerment to underprivileged children in Varanasi. Through after-school tutoring, we support learners at all levels—from pre-school readiness to exam preparation—helping prevent school dropouts and strengthening academic foundations.

Our community library plays a central role in this work. It offers access to a wide range of books and computers for digital literacy. We also conduct enriching activities such as arts, crafts, and dance to encourage creativity; debates and quizzes to build communication skills; science projects to spark innovation; and sports to develop teamwork and resilience.

Our impact runs deep. By supporting first-generation learners, bridging the digital divide, and creating safe, nurturing spaces, we help break cycles of disadvantage. We empower not only students, but also future leaders equipped with the confidence and compassion to uplift their communities.

How we will utilise these books

The books procured will be actively used to rebuild a vibrant reading culture through daily, structured library sessions. These will include guided reading circles as well as opportunities for independent exploration, helping children improve reading skills, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Your support will enable us to replace the books lost in the floods and to replenish our multilingual collection in both Hindi and English. By helping us rebuild, you are not just restocking shelves; you are restoring a vital lifeline of opportunity for hundreds of children in Varanasi.
