Help kids from the Nyishi tribe in Arunachal Pradesh discover new worlds through books
0Days to go
Who we are
‘Government Primary School’ is a small school located in a corner of Arunachal Pradesh where most of the students belong to the Nyishi tribe and are first-generation learners. They need access to resources that expose them to the world beyond their school and storybooks are the best way to help them explore and discover new ideas. But high-quality books are largely inaccessible and expensive for the students’ families.
I am a volunteer for the school supporting this fundraising as I, too, came from the same tribe and grew up in the same place. I want the children studying in this school to access the same opportunities I was given.
Our work and its impact
I belong to the same Nyishi tribe as the students and am a volunteer crowdfunding for books for this school as I want the students to get the same opportunities I got.
I am now working towards reforming the education system with the Central Square Foundation in Delhi and volunteering during weekends to bridge the gap between tribal children in Arunachal Pradesh and their access to quality education.
How we will utilise these books
The school has no library due to a lack of storybooks and infrastructure. The funds from my campaign will be used to get storybooks for a school library. The Library-in-a-Classroom from Pratham Books will make it simple to set up classroom libraries so every child can discover the joy of reading. The books will also be valuable sources of teaching material which teachers can use to make the lessons engaging.
