Who we are
Divya Jyoti Society is a local NGO run by the people of Lower Nandok village situated in Gangtok, Sikkim. The society is actively engaged in organising cleanliness drives, plantation activities, etc. We also provide financial assistance to the people in the village.
The society aims to improve the educational infrastructure of the surrounding villages by
creating a community library so children can develop a reading habit and also setting up libraries for elementary/secondary level students.
Our work and its impact
We are setting up libraries in rural schools and communities to create safe reading spaces for people of all ages. It will act as a cultural and community hub that anchors different villages and unites disparate groups. The libraries can also be used as study areas as many children find it very difficult to study at home. Networking enables the students and community to grow socially and economically and this will help us build relationships with people of similar interests.
How we will utilise these books
The funds from this campaign will be used to fill the libraries with colourful storybooks from Pratham Books and will be utilised by children in the community and help them develop crucial skills for their academic and personal growth. The library will have delightful storybooks that explore a plethora of themes to encourage reading.
