Who we are
The upcoming library at the low-income government school in Yerwada, Pune aims to impact about one-fourth of the 1000 students enrolled. The library, for a community-driven with struggle, abuse and hardships. The library with books filled with stories of hope, drama and suspense. A multitude of texts covering the whole range of genres. A den of learning and inspiration. Help us build the same.
Our work and its impact
Teach for India is an organisation working toward eliminating educational inequity in government & low-income private schools. I am a second-year fellow working with a government school. Currently, I teach English to 91 budding learners in Yerwada, Pune.
How we will utilise these books
I teach English to a batch of 91 seventh graders at a low-income government school. Along with multiple stakeholders, I work towards creating a holistic learning environment for the students. My team attempts to co-create socially sensitive and responsible global citizens in our classroom. We equip them with the necessary 21st-century skills, by providing them with adequate exposure through multimedia tools, daily reflections and activities led learning opportunities - in order to put them on the desired life path. My team and I aim to set up a library in our school by the end of the year 2018. The funds will be used to buy English, Hindi and Marathi books which will cater to 6 classrooms in the school. This will lay a foundation for the library we aspire to set up and aid us in developing a reading culture among the students in our school.
