Who we are

The School situated in Melghat area of Chikhaldhar block, Maharashtra is a learning institution for 124 primary students. The teachers and HM were able to develop reading interest among students from various activities. But, unavailability of appropriate reading materials in the library makes them less engaged in the classroom. Through this campaign, we want to get Pratham books to improve reading habits in students. Because the school is nodal, this campaign will demonstrate a positive approach to improve reading habits among students in the entire Katkumbh cluster.

Our work and its impact

Zila Parishad Primary School established in 1930, has been one of the earliest school in Melghat region. The school has been successfully engaged with the Katkumbh villagers to educate them. With a staff of 4 teachers and 1 headmaster, the school has started many drives like, 'Stop Plastic', 'Chavdi Vachan', 'cleanliness drive', to educate this particular tribal belt people. Since the last 2 years of my working experience as HM, I along with my colleague gave full effort to improve educative interest among students. The teachers engage the students in craft making and other non-academic activities to improve the cognitive and vocational skills in students.

How we will utilise these books

The school as a nodal school tries to demonstrate the best practices to impact 79 teachers and 1250 students pan Katkumbh cluster. The CRC (Cluster Resource Centre) has supported the school in every need. Being situated in a tough geographical area the school lacks resources unlike other schools in plain areas. The fund raised by 'A Book in Every Hand' Campaign will be directly used to buy 6 Library-in-classroom kit. The students will use the book in English, Hindi, Marathi to improve their reading habits and comprehensive skills. We are also planning to engage the illiterate community members of Katkumbh village in the reading campaign
