Having the choice of reading stories in your own language is freedom! Every child in India should have a book to read in a language she understands and loves. Celebrate the month of Independence with us as we democratize the joy of reading a good storybook, in one's own language! Help us make #FreedomtoRead a reality by helping us put together a pack of 150 books in Kannada to be given out to children so that children of R C Educational Institution can own a book of her own!
Our work and its impact
R C School is located in the village of Harobale, 80 kms from Bangalore and 20 kms from Kanakapura, the nearest town. The school has an enrollment of around 450 students from Harobale and surrounding villages. Education is from Class 1-10 with Kannada as the medium of instruction. The students come from very modest backgrounds - their parents are financially disadvantaged, mostly engaged in coolie work on the land or more recently, a few have taken to small-scale silk-worm farming to eke out a living. If not for this school, most of these children would not get an education and be able to improve their lives and those of their families.
How we will utilise these books
In R C Educational Institute education at a low budget is provided to first generation learners from modest background. The students comes from nearby areas and have parents mostly engaged in daily labour work. The school has classes from 1-10 with Kannada as the medium of instruction These funds will be utilized for giving the joy of owning a book to children from the R C Educational Institution in Kanakapura. 150 Kannada books will be given out through this drive.
