Who we are

While working with the village communities in the remote himalayan locations in Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal etc, it was evident that the small schools did not have access to libraries. IT Nature Trust has mobilized resources to create small libraries (upto 800 books) at over 6 villages. The Trust has plans to set up 12 libraries between July 2015 and June 2016.Till now, the Trust has set up 6 libraries in remote schools located in Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal. Upcoming libraries are in Gopeshwar,Chopta and Maandlu (Uttarakhand) and Manipur .

Our work and its impact

IT Nature Trust is a registered, not for profit organization dedicated to the conservation of biological and cultural diversity of the communities we work with. We actively inspire and initiate the communities by collaborating with them to establish income generating activities. Such hand holding initiatives empower them to be the custodians to save and conserve the rich biodiversity and ecosystem around them.

How we will utilise these books

We started as a small team about ten years back, and worked with the local schools and communities in the rural areas adjacent to Bannerghatta National Park, in the outskirts of Bangalore. With the help of friends and well wishers, we would contribute by way of learning aids. We organized naure walks, astronomy sessions, visits to the local zoo and helped create an environment wherein the young students learnt to appreciate human relationship with the nature. We also had the opportunity to work with the local tribal people in Arunachal Pradesh, living in the vicinity of the National Parks/forests and understand the core issues of Man - Animal Conflicts and Livelihood issues. Over time, we decided to formally set up a Non Profit Organization, to channelize the efforts in a structured manner, as well as to partner effectively with the Local/National Government and people. Thus, IT Nature Trust was registered as a Non Profit Trust, with a Charter to work with a focus on key areas of Nature,Conservation and Livelihoods. With the funds, we would buy children's books for children aged 5 to 16 and establish and replenish libraries in low cost schools which cannot afford to buy them in the present conditions. We would also like to furnish these libraries with book racks and reading areas if we manage to generate the sum we have mentioned.
