Hi, I’m Priya Veronika Hemrom, an Adivasi and a multidisciplinary artist. My journey with books began when my professor, who runs a children’s library in Goa, introduced me to ‘Somaru Misses Home’. The story deeply resonated with me as it reflected the lives of children from my village. This made me realise the privilege I had, as many children in my village were unaware of such books.

As a first-generation English learner, my schooling was difficult and often unenjoyable. My brother and I had to find creative ways to teach ourselves. When I returned to my village, I saw children still struggling with the same traditional teaching methods, which reminded me of my own challenges.

Having learned the power of storytelling, I want to reshape the experiences of the children in my community. The books we provide will inspire them to discover the joy of reading. Through diverse narratives, I aim to create a learning environment that encourages curiosity and lifelong learning.

I am raising funds to introduce first-generation Adivasi children to the world of books and to foster a culture of reading. The joy these children expressed when I first shared picture books with them inspired me to start this fundraiser. Together, we can help nurture their love of reading and learning.
