Who we are
IIMPACT, founded in 2003 by alumni of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, is dedicated to advancing girls' education in underserved, rural parts of India. Our mission is to mobilise and educate young, out-of-school or irregularly attending girls from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, without any regard to religion, caste, or community. We aim to put these girls on a path toward functional literacy through high-quality primary education.
Since its founding, IIMPACT has grown from supporting 396 girls in 12 Learning Centres to nearly 49,000 girls across 1,712 Learning Centres in 11 states as of September 2024. These centres, located in 33 districts across Northern, Central, and Eastern India, have helped over 45,000 girls achieve primary education, with many continuing on to secondary and even higher education. IIMPACT’s Learning Centre model has not only provided educational opportunities but also empowered communities to understand the value of educating girls, contributing to long-lasting social change.
Our work and its impact
Through IIMPACT’s Girl Child Education Programme, we identify rural, out-of-school or at-risk girls in targeted intervention areas, focusing on providing them with accessible, quality primary education. IIMPACT’s Learning Centre model addresses key challenges to girls’ education by establishing single-teacher primary centres in villages with a high concentration of out-of-school or irregularly attending girls aged 6 to 14. These centres bring education to girls’ doorsteps, creating a safe, community-oriented environment where girls are encouraged to learn. This approach fosters not only educational progress but also a cultural shift in villages, breaking down long-standing barriers to girls’ education.
For many girls attending IIMPACT Learning Centres, this is their first exposure to formal education. Each child benefits from a structured curriculum that enables them to transition into mainstream schools, equipping them with foundational skills essential for lifelong learning. Our programme has a profound ripple effect within these communities, as families and local leaders increasingly recognise the value of educating girls.
How we will utilise these books
The storybooks by Pratham Books provided through this campaign will be used in 61 new Learning Centres recently opened in Uttarakhand, serving approximately 2,000 girls in rural areas of Uttarkashi and Udham Singh Nagar. Reading plays a vital role in developing language skills, and at IIMPACT, we encourage each child to cultivate a love for reading. These books, available in English and Hindi, will spark curiosity, imagination, and a passion for learning among first-generation learners from communities with limited access to educational materials.
The donated books will enhance the learning experience by providing girls with quality reading resources, supporting independent reading and structured activities that build vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking. By creating an engaging and supportive learning environment, these books will inspire a lifelong love for knowledge, bolstering the girls’ confidence and educational journey.
