Who we are
The smell of a room full of books! Sweet! Isn't it? Our students never experienced that. We don't have a library at our school. The parents cannot afford to buy them books. They are hungry. They are curious. They are hopeful. They need books. We want to set up the first library for St. Francis school. We need your support.
Our work and its impact
We are a team of 5 Teach For India(TFI) fellows at St. Francis EM high school, trying our level best to give these 600 kids what they should have got as a birth right- an excellent education. An equal opportunity, a level platform- that's what we are determined to provide them. And we are not going to settle for anything less. Poverty cannot and will not determine their destiny. Period.
How we will utilise these books
Teach for India as an organisation strives to make a battalion of independent learners across each and every classroom they teach. We as fellows go out and do everything possible under the sky to achieve that. Our kids can't afford a ticket to the Jim Corbett National Park but how can they be denied an opportunity to read Kipling's Jungle book? Their definition of big meant anything larger than their 10 by 10 houses but why can't they explore the magnanimity of our universe? Sure, the biggest puzzle for them was how to fix their torn shoes but why can't they too discover the mysteries of the Egyptian mummies? We want to add wings to their imagination and foster in them the joy of reading. We see these kids becoming the future Kalams and Vivekanandas and Tagores! The funds will be utilised to procure 1000 books from different fields of study across 3 languages. These books will be read by kids from classes 1-10. The library will have books ranging from textbooks and reference books to classic novels to encyclopaedias to Olympiad preparation material to science experiments and activities and more. We envision to create a gymnasium for the mind!
