Who we are
Oxford English High School is an affordable private school located in the Malvani slums in Malad (West), Mumbai. There are 100 students in grades 5th, 6th and 7th, and they are all equally enthusiastic and eager to learn. As a Teach For India intervention school, Teach For India fellows are placed in the school as mentors and to guide the students in their academic journey.
Our work and its impact
I am a Teach For India fellow placed in Oxford English High School. I am a literacy facilitator to a bunch of brilliant and eager students. Education is the most powerful and accessible way for them to achieve their dreams and improve their standard of living. I teach my students the importance of the English language not just as a subject in the classroom, but as a tool in life to chase their goals and become future leaders.
How we will utilise these books
The funds received from this campaign will be used to get delightful storybooks from Pratham Books. The books will be part of a mobile library used during English classes. Our school does not have the infrastructure to dedicate an entire room to storybooks, therefore, as their teacher, I will be taking the books with me to the students. My aim is to help them develop a regular reading habit and improve their communication and linguistic skills.
