Who we are
There are no libraries within 40 km radius of our village. Students do not have access to any literature beyond textbooks. I am trying to start a public library that will be open to all, space where children, youth, old and other members of the community can come together to read and discuss.
Our work and its impact
I am Prashant, a student trying to work for my village and community. I have done on-ground research and found a simple way to help some students. I have launched two initiatives, one for students in my village, another for a neighboring village.
How we will utilise these books
My mission is to inculcate a habit of joyful reading books in students and other members of the community so that they can learn something valuable and get think beyond petty gossip. We hope that the elders in the community will offer help to other children in terms of good guidance. Towards this end, I provide students of class 9th and 10th career counseling and one to one mentoring. I have faced something every student of rural Bihar faces: lack of books and guidance. I hope to solve this issue at least in my village so that my younger brothers and sisters are not misled. Currently, I am working on 50 students but this Library will help me to reach about 5000 students and people who just sitting idle. I hope that in this library we will be able to stock about 5000 books by the end of 2020. Srijan Pal Singh from Kalam foundation and MGMD family is guiding me to utilize 95% funds on books and 5% on the maintenance of the library. I plan to collect a nominal monthly subscription fee of rupees 30 from adults. This will be used for logistics, maintenance, and organizing monthly literary events open for all members of my community.
