Who we are

School for Democracy (SFD) or Loktantrashala, is a non-formal educational institution dedicated to promoting democratic education and learning in India. The institute is located in the village of Badi Ka Badiya in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district. It was conceived as a space to teach groups of students from diverse social and educational backgrounds the theory and practice of a functioning democracy in the context of the Constitution of India. The Loktantrashala undertakes various activities like online and offline training, workshops, lectures, cultural events, public assemblies, exhibitions, and community outreach initiatives in an attempt to facilitate and promote democratic understanding and awareness.

Our work and its impact

Our aim is to create a fun learning space run by local youth and supported by SFD. The core objectives of the community library initiative are:

● To provide a space that teaches children about the constitutional values of equality, liberty, fraternity, justice, and unity.
● To encourage curiosity in children. We want to inculcate the habit of reading in them from an early age to improve their comprehension skills and create a learning environment that includes activities like drama, poetry readings, music, films and games.
● To create a network of village libraries that serve as centres of learning and informal education.
● To use the network of libraries to educate, inform, and spread awareness on democratic rights and principles, and development issues.

How we will utilise these books

The funds raised from this campaign will be used to stock ten libraries with multilingual storybooks from Pratham Books. The storybooks will be distributed across libraries in rural areas in the districts of Rajsamand, Pali, Bhilwara and Ajmer in Rajasthan.
