Who we are
Asha Bhavan Centre (ABC) is a non-profit organisation, working for the welfare of marginalised communities in remote areas of West Bengal since 1999. The mission of Asha Bhavan Centre is to create meaningful opportunities for their social and economic development to help them gain dignity and self-confidence in life.
Our work and its impact
Asha Bhavan Centre runs several social development activities with the support of the government and civil society:Â
- Early intervention programme: to detect disability early in children and intervene as early as the first year of life to support their development.
- Community-based rehabilitation programme: establish rehabilitation services and promote the rights of people with disabilities.Â
- Bodhoday Vidya Mandir (BVM) School Programme: provide quality education to primary school students in rural areas.Â
- Childcare Institute: provide care, protection and rehabilitation facilities to young girls with special needs under the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection) Act 2015.
How we will utilise these books
With the funds from our campaign, we would like to set up a library in the Child Care Institute Children's home in Uluberia, West Bengal which will benefit 120 young girls with special needs. Pratham Books’ colourful and multilingual storybooks will introduce them to the joy of reading and nurture their emotional, cognitive and linguistic growth. The books will also encourage children to develop and strengthen their English and creative writing skills.
