Know more about us
Who we are
Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya is a government senior secondary school (DoE) in Delhi where 700+ girls from Majnu Ka Tilla, an underprivileged community, are enrolled. Despite our teachers’ and TFI fellows’ effort, the shortage of educational resources limits the students’ opportunities to realise their potential.
Teach for India is a not-for-profit organisation that works with the belief that one day all children will attain an excellent education. At TFI, we believe leadership for education is the solution. We are building a movement of leaders who will eliminate educational inequity in India by placing TFI fellows across the country in low-income schools and communities.
Our work and its impact
We work with students who lack basic literacy to push them out of their comfort zones. The lack of core skills like reading is one of the biggest factors contributing to low literacy rates. We wish to build a classroom of independent leaders who will become the next generation’s change makers.
How we will utilise these books
Daan Utsav or, the Joy of Giving Week is celebrated every year in India from October 2nd to 8th and is India’s biggest festival of giving during which people from all over the country join hands to perform acts of kindness.
The funds from our Daan Utsav campaign will be used to get books that will be utilised by students in classes I to V. We are trying to build a classroom library with English storybooks to fill the dearth of high quality literacy resources. As the school does not have a library for the primary classes, the books will also be used in the classrooms to build reading fluency and comprehension from an early age.
