Who we are
Goonj is a 22-year-old nonprofit organisation that aims to build a relationship of strength, sustenance and dignity between people living in urban and rural India. We work in the areas of water, education, health, sanitation, environment, livelihoods, infrastructure, and disaster relief.
Pratham Books is a nonprofit children’s book publisher that strives to get ‘a book in every child’s hand’. Over 17 years, we have published 5000+ delightful storybooks for children in 24 Indian languages, and partnered with many organisations and individuals in our ongoing efforts to get ‘a book in every child’s hand’.
Our work and its impact
We work towards the improvement in the areas of education, menstrual health, sanitation, disaster relief and rehabilitation, water, and environment.
Goonj actively works with urban school children by engaging them in exposure visits, awareness sessions, and collection drives through volunteerism and school partners. We educate them on the importance of resources and inculcate the habit of mindful giving.
How we will utilise these books
The funds raised from this campaign will be used to procure delightful storybooks from Pratham Books, which will be a part of Goonj's kits along with other essential items. The books included in the kit will be customised as per the vernacular needs of the area. We have identified areas in Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh to distribute the kits. As schools are expected to remain closed for the better part of the upcoming academic year, we aim to reach children who have been cooped up indoors for many months and share the joy of reading storybooks.
