Who we are
I am a recent International MBA Graduate from IE Business School, Madrid, and I need your benevolent support to help less privileged kids discover the gift of reading. Ensuring that books are available to any child at any time of the year will be a good first step in enhancing the reading achievement of low-income students and an absolutely necessary step in closing the reading achievement gap.
Our work and its impact
I am an alumnus of The Doon School, Dehradun and Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi. I’m incredibly grateful for having had the privilege to study at some of India’s premier institutions; but, it has made me all the more indignant for the less fortunate, who, in India, lack basic resources, including books and other reading material. I’ve already sought to address this discrepancy at the grassroots level at Maa Anandmayee Memorial School (MAMS) where students have enormous talent and potential. Established in 1985 as a non-profit, (MAMS) is a co- educational K12 High School that makes scholastic and co-scholastic interventions facilitating learners to grow to their full potential, achieve self-actualization and develop competencies to face today’s challenges with élan.
How we will utilise these books
MAMS especially bridges learning deficits amongst the underserved rural community near Rishikesh providing quality experiential learning through workshops, industrial visits, and cultural exchanges at affordable rates. The school endeavours to provide an all-round, sound foundation for broad-based education to the children in a tranquil atmosphere free from inhibitions and prejudices, in order to promote their overall development, and to make them conscientious and responsible citizens. The education at MAMS disrupts mainstream rote learning spurring an unparalleled awakening using a resolute 4E paradigm, i.e. To Educate, To Enlighten, To Enrich, and To Empower (the entire MAMS fraternity). The institution has efficiently used its locational edge to successfully groom thousands of next- generation leaders over 3 decades of relentless service in the rural education space. We are setting up two Community Libraries to facilitate unabated access for students across the region. These will be inclusive libraries that will shelve diverse books (Academic and Non- Academic) to stimulate students’ varied interests and to cultivate a good reading mindset habit. The community libraries will remain open after school hours and on holidays. A wider access to books closes the readability gap and improves cognition thereby fostering an inquisitive spirit amongst students. It also helps develop a stronger vocabulary, more background knowledge, better expressive and receptive language abilities, and stronger phonological awareness amongst students.
