Who we are
We are a class of 47 5th graders studying in a government school in Pune City, Maharashtra. Currently, our school does not have a library, and we hence rarely read books outside of our school syllabus. We would appreciate your help in gaining exposure through reading a variety of books in our preferred languages and at our reading levels. We are grateful for your help and support.
Our work and its impact
My name is Tara Verghis, and I began working with an NGO called Teach for India a few months ago. Teach for India has been operating for the last 10 years and serves children from low-income communities in under-resourced schools around the country.
How we will utilise these books
As an organization, Teach for India aims to battle the crisis of educational inequity that has been and is prevalent in our country. The goal is to provide for all children access to the kind of education that they deserve, and attempt to level the playing field in an otherwise preferential society. I personally help teach a group of 47 energetic, enthusiastic, curious children primarily English and Environmental Studies. The funds will be utilized to obtain 50 books in English as well as their mother tongues (Hindi and Marathi) in order for them to build and sustain a love for reading and learning.
