Know more about us

Who we are

We are a class of 66 '11 years old energetic leaders' - studying in grade 6 in a government school in Vikaspuri, New Delhi. We require books for our classroom library for we dream to be avid readers and wish to hone our comprehension skills. Also, we would like to infer from and/or connect to the morals from these books to solve real life problems. We are beginners now and we will soon move up the ladder if given opportunity and access. The reading levels range from -0.5 to 3.0. Help us bridge the gap and become better readers.

Our work and its impact

I am Akshay Arora. A footballer, explorer, photographer and a fellow at teach for India. I love the work I do. I work to bridge the educational gaps that these underprivileged students face, in the hopes of putting these students on a fundamentally different life path. Through the 'Teaching as Leadership' framework, I employ innovative teaching strategies to maximize my effectiveness in the classroom. Thus, a teacher, motivator and guide to 66 promising kids.

How we will utilise these books

I teach a class of 66, 6th graders in Sarvodaya Bal Vidhyalaya-A Block Vikaspuri, New Delhi. Besides the school curriculum, I teach them the Teach For India curriculum too, which involves Literacy, Math, Speaking & Listening and Values. I also try and bring in exposure to them by guiding them to their areas of interest. My kids belong to a low-income community in the packed area of New Delhi. Mostly being sons of contract labors To provide them with an education that caters to their individual needs, I believe, will help them grow more confident and reassured of themselves. The society they belong to has not seen much of the world; has not had much exposure. Through the education I give them, I hope to open avenues for them so that they become global citizens of the world. i believe everyone should have an equal opportunity irrespective of their background. As i have varied level of kids. The funds are going to help make a library of books, varied in topics and levels, so that it can cater to kids across different levels of understanding and in order to bridge the gap among them. I aim to give my kids the platform to read, in order to drive critical thinking and creativity in kids' approach.
