Who we are
Jai Vaishnavi Mata Education Society, Kherda [JVMESK] is committed to grassroots development activities that engage and empower farmers, students, and rural communities in villages around Parbhani district of Maharashtra.
Our work and its impact
JVMESK is working toward the empowerment of rural children by setting up libraries across villages thus creating reading spaces where children can have free access to books. We have an active reading program where children from Class 2 to 12 leverage the libraries we have set up. Children regularly spend at least an hour reading a book of their choice - academic, general interest, poetry, stories, etc - that help them hone their skills to better understand a subject matter or improve their language skills.
How we will utilise these books
We are raising funds to set up libraries in Zilla Panchayat Schools in our district and thus aid children in being career-ready. Rural students from classes 4 to 12 shall benefit from these libraries.
Additionally, we are planning to set up libraries in public spaces, such as panchayat offices, that receive a high footfall. Children and parents can access and engage with these books while they wait for their turn in these offices. We will train facilitators and volunteers to take ownership of and facilitate such engagements. We are positive that with the kind of books provided along with the model of operation, the programs will be impactful in the long run.
