Who we are
We are a group of 150 kids who study at a government school in North Chennai (CB Road). We face numerous challenges in our life including poverty, an exposure to high level of violence, improper sanitation etc. Despite not having very much exposure to the world outside our little neighborhood we are eternally curious and want to learn as much as we can about India and the world. Help us become fluent readers and explore the world and the opportunities present within it.
Our work and its impact
We are four dedicated Teach For India fellows who are working tirelessly in a Corporation Primary School in North Chennai.
How we will utilise these books
We are on a mission to change the life path of our kids, the community that we work in is one facing extreme poverty and everyday we witness the numerous obstacles that our placed towards our kids education. It is these very obstacles that we are constantly teaching them to overcome. Our Grade 3 and Grade 4 kids are reading at a much lower grade level and we are ensuring that we close this gap and prepare them adequately for the world. Our mission is not just to bridge their grade levels but also to ensure we are teaching them to be empathetic, socially and environmentally conscious individuals. We visit their homes and communities regularly to change the mindsets of the families so that they are invested in their children's education and can imagine a bright future for them. We are hoping to set up a library in each of our classroom by the end of this year. We also a operate a free tuition center after school in the community and we want to have books available for the kids there as well.
