Who we are
The Jagdamba Nursery Project runs out of a small room in the slums. The project was a response to the needs of older students who were unable to attend school because they were needed to take care of their younger siblings. With Aarohan taking care of the children for a few hours everyday, their older siblings, especially girls were able to find the time to pursue their own education.
Our work and its impact
I have volunteered with Aarohan's Jagdamba Camp Project in the past and distributed toys to the children through Toybank. Through my experience working with Aarohan, I understand the importance the organization gives to education and primarily to play and reading. It is important to encourage children to read at an early age, and the only way to achieve that is to enable them with books to read. I am also a PB Champion and understand the important goal of placing a book in every child's hand and the places that would take the young minds to.
How we will utilise these books
The Jagdamba Camp Project facilitates basic cognitive development of children ranging from the ages of 3 to 5 years through specific class activities. It also prepares these children, through such classes and training to better assimilate into mainstream schools. If children are able to adjust and cope in schools from an early age, they will be less likely to drop-out later on. With the available funds Aarohan will be able to encourage early learning amongst the little children at the Camp and enable the parents and families, who are otherwise not equipped or exposed to the creativity and imagination that only books can bring.
