Who we are
Eka Ananta Foundation is an Indore-based grassroots organization focused on children to learn, express and grow through stories, creativity and accessible education. Our focus goes beyond academics: we strive for children to build daily reading habit alongside creativity, curiosity and confidence, because good books give every child room to imagine and explore.
Through community libraries, school programs, teacher training and storytelling events, we are creating an ecosystem where reading is accessible, joyful and deeply rooted. We are bringing this vision to life across five strategic pillars:
- Free Community Libraries
- Reading spaces at government schools, low-income schools, Anganwadis, slums and orphanages.
- Empowering educators and staff
- Organizing reading events and workshops
- Extend libraries to villages as community learning spaces.
Our work and its impact
India has 250 million school-going children. Most of them will never walk into a bookstore. In a country where 70% of children attend government schools, access to quality reading material outside the classroom is almost non-existent. Our program addresses four interlocking problems
- 78% of children in India have no access to books outside school textbooks
- Most school teachers were never trained to make reading joyful or habit-forming.
- The average Indian child spends 4+ hours daily on screens. Reading is losing the battle for attention.
- Quality children's books in Hindi and regional languages remain inaccessible.
How we will utilise these books
We will use the books to build four things in children: a reading habit, creativity, curiosity, and confidence. Every book will be sorted by age group, language, reading level, and condition. Picture books for little ones, early readers for children who are just finding their feet, and longer stories for confident readers will each have their own place.
Each donated book then travels. It may land on a park shelf at a free community library , where a child spots it on an evening walk, takes it home . Or it arrives in a school, Anganwadi or orphanage, where a trained storyteller reads it to a circle of children who have never owned a storybook. They guess what happens next, laugh at the funny parts and talk about the characters’ feelings. Stories also give us a gentle way to talk about feelings like kindness, honesty and courage, which supports our Social-Emotional Learning work.
And the book keeps moving, from child to child and library to library. Every donated book becomes a story shared many times over.
