In response to the growing threat of indigenous cultural erosion due to modernisation in Arunachal Pradesh, the Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust was established with a crucial mission. This trust is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and transmitting the time-honoured customs and traditions of the region's indigenous communities. Addressing the generational gap caused by technological advances and evolving lifestyles, the trust set up the Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko school in Mwya, village Pulyi, Arunachal Pradesh. This Gurukul-style institution, operating since 2022, offers a holistic education by integrating the CBSE curriculum with teachings on indigenous values and cultural practices. Catering to students from the Nyishi tribe, the school not only imparts knowledge but also nurtures a profound connection to the Nyishi heritage, nurturing a resilient cultural identity while preparing students for modern challenges. The Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko School serves as a beacon of inspiration for indigenous educational initiatives in the region, safeguarding indigenous traditions in the face of change.
